The goal of this project was the research & prototype development of new methods in modern brachytherapy for 3D optimization, 3D catheter reconstruction and inverse planning. The project was partly funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology.
Pi Medical was the coordinator of this project and the research performed in cooperation with MedCom Gmbh (Germany) and Laboratory of Medical Physics, General Hospital of Larissa (Greece).
The output of this project was a suite of software tools for treatment planning in high dose rate brachythetrapy including:
- Advanced (multi-objective) dose optimization techniques,
- Inverse planning
- Simple decision making methods, and
- Techniques which speed up the dose calculation.
Many of these protoypes were further developed and implemented in Nucletron's Oncentra Prostate and Oncentra GYN.
